Veteran’s Plus presented their F.I.S.H Award to the Alliant Credit Union Foundation and Alliant Credit Union in recognition for their joint efforts to increase financial literacy among veteran and active US military personnel. ACUF was the first foundation to grant funding to Veteran’s Plus, and has been an avid supporter ever since. Veteran’s Plus Deputy Director, Chris Fitzpatrick, presented the award to members of the Board of ACUF and Alliant.

Veteran’s Plus is a nonprofit organization that promotes economic empowerment among former and currently active US military personnel and their families. This includes personalized financial coaching, financial literacy classes and programs, and a free online financial management tool. Very often, many of the men and women who serve do not find an opportunity to learn about finances by the time they re-enter civilian life and are unable to offer their families assistance while they are on a tour of duty. Veteran’s Plus serves as a valuable resource for these individuals.

The F.I.S.H Award was conceptualized by Veteran’s Plus founder, John Pickens. Its name and shape (see figure 1b. above) is inspired by the well-known Chinese proverb, “if you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” This is the second time that ACUF has been nominated for the F.I.S.H Award. While presenting the award, Fitzpatrick said, "F.I.S.H. represents all we do, people that work for us and partners like you who help us complete our mission. Please wear it proudly, and if people ask what it is, it means you're making an impact."
