After the devastating Haiti earthquake left thousands of people in dire need, employees of Chicago based Alliant Credit Union asked how they could assist, according to Alliant President & CEO David W. Mooney.

Also recognizing the need and desire to help, Alliant Credit Union Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation established by the credit union, developed a very generous Haiti Relief Matching Donation Program, which resulted in over $39,000 in contributions. "The program featured a special $10-to-$1 donation match, meaning that for every dollar donated to Haiti earthquake relief by Alliant Credit Union employees, Alliant Credit Union Foundation would donate ten dollars," explained Mooney.

"The $10-to-$1 match provided our employees with extra incentive to give, knowing their donations would result in much larger amounts," Mooney added. To streamline the combined effort, it was decided to make American Red Cross the exclusive relief organization for this program. "Although Alliant employees could certainly contribute to their charity of choice, only Red Cross Haiti Relief donations became eligible for Alliant Credit Union Foundation's tenfold match," said Mooney, who is also president of the Foundation.

Alliant Credit Union Foundation is headquartered with Alliant Credit Union at Touhy Avenue and Wolf Road, Chicago, just north of O'Hare International Airport. The Foundation is a 501c3 charitable organization established in 2009 via a $4 million grant from the Credit Union.

With assets of over $7 billion, Alliant is the largest Illinois based credit union and America's seventh largest in asset size.
