Alliant Credit Union Foundation donated approximately $200,000 to various charities and educational organizations in line with its mission during 2010, announced Foundation Chairman and Alliant Credit Union CEO David W. Mooney. The 501c3 not-for-profit Foundation, which began operations in 2009, was established through a $4 million grant from Alliant Credit Union. Both the Foundation and credit union are based near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

Mr. Mooney said, “The purpose of the foundation is to promote economic empowerment and self-sufficiency of people, especially in the communities where Alliant Credit Union members and employees live and work.” Causes eligible for Foundation financial support include: 1) Those related to education with an emphasis on financial literacy; 2) Charities helping those in need of assistance; 3) Investment in community development projects and programs, especially those in underserved areas.

Foundation grants help pay for holiday gifts and festivities at airports held for children with life threatening illnesses. Event locations include O’Hare, along with international airports in Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington DC and Phoenix.

Foundation donations also purchased school supplies and reading books for students of Prescott Elementary School, Alliant Credit Union’s partner in the Chicago Public Schools Corporate Partnership Program. A number of health care and humanitarian organizations also received Foundation grants including: Breast Cancer Network of Strength, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, American Red Cross and more.
